We return two years later in Story Time while only seconds have passed for several characters, and Season 3’s momentum picks up right where the Targaryen chaos left off. The episode opens with the familiar Die, You! Tapestry — now bloodier and more embroidered than ever replaying Valyria’s Doom, Aegon’s Conquest, and the major Targaryen tragedies from Seasons 1 and 2, including Lucerys’s brutal death, baby Jaehaerys lying in state, Rhaenys’s fall at Rook’s Rest, and the Red Sowing.

In the Vale, Rhaena finally bonds with the dragon Sheepstealer after a long chase across the heath; the scene plays like a slow-burn romance where actions mean more than words. Back in King’s Landing, Aegon and Larys have secretly fled north in a carriage, but Aegon’s withdrawal from pain medication leaves him vulnerable and volatile. Their escape is interrupted by Rhaenyra’s soldiers, who intend to kill the fugitives. Larys exposes their identities and persuades the leader to spare them handing Aegon and Larys straight into Rhaenyra’s grasp and setting up fresh tension among the Targaryen siblings.
